Photoinitiator 2959 is a highly efficient non-yellowing radical photoinitiator for UV curing. It is especially suited where low odor, food contact and water-borne is required. The active hydroxy group can react with suitable unsaturated resins.

The hydroxy functional group makes Photoinitiator 2959 the first choice in water-borne formulations. Photoinitiator 2959 may also be used on substrates like wood, metal, plastic and paper.
Photoinitiator 2959 demonstrates low volatility and low odor as a pure substance as well as in cured films; its hydroxy functional group can react to a resin backbone, resulting in system with minimum extractability of the photoinitiator; so Photoinitiator 2959 is quite suitable for formulations where high health concern and minimum residual odor is required, e.g. in printing onto food packaging.
The optimum dosage of Photoinitiator 2959 should be determined in trials covering a concentration range; a moderate recommendation level is 2 - 5 % based on resins.
